Combat climate change
Objective: Reduce our carbon footprint (Scopes 1 and 2) by 45% compared with 2019, our baseline year, which was already supplied with green electricity.
Key initiatives:
- Sourcing 100% certified renewable electricity across all our venues;
- Reducing natural gas consumption at all relevant sites;
- Modernising Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) systems through low-carbon solutions.
Low-Carbon Mobility
Objective: Accelerate the development of low-carbon mobility solutions for our visitors and event organisers.
Key initiatives:
- Implementing a system to measure customers’ freight-related carbon footprint through the Logipass tool;
- Deploying off-site logistics at the Palais des Congrès and consolidated logistics at CNIT Forest to reduce last-mile carbon emissions;
- Enhancing public transport connections to Viparis venues to encourage sustainable mobility.
Anticipating Climate Risks
Objective: Implement climate risk mitigation measures across all our venues.
Key initiatives:
- Creating new green spaces across our sites to reduce urban heat island effects;
- Installing anemometers at relevant venues to anticipate strong wind gusts and secure clients’ outdoor structures;
- Deploying temperature and CO₂ monitoring sensors to maintain consistent comfort levels.
Promoting Sustainable Buildings
Energy
Objective: Reduce the energy intensity of our venues by 40% compared with the 2014 baseline year.
Key initiatives:
- Deploying LED lighting across all our venues;
- Improving hall waterproofing and insulation performance;
- Implementing an energy-efficiency approach by optimising heating, ventilation, air conditioning (HVAC) systems and escalator operations during set-up and dismantling phases.
Low-Carbon Construction
Objective: Reduce greenhouse gas emissions associated with the construction of our halls and hotels.
Key initiatives:
- Reducing the use of steel and concrete in foundations and superstructures;
- Using bio-based materials for façades and limiting glazed surfaces;
- Reusing components recovered from deconstructed buildings.
Sustainable Building Certifications
Objective: Achieve a minimum BREEAM Excellent or HQE Excellent certification for 100% of major development projects.
Key initiatives:
- Securing NF HQE “Excellent” certification for all halls built since 2019;
- Securing NF HQE “Excellent” certification for all hotels built since 2019;
- Setting a target of BREEAM “Excellent” certification for future projects up to 2030.
Biodiversity
Objective: Place biodiversity preservation at the heart of our practices and decision-making processes through measurable, long-term actions.
Key initiatives:
- Deploying a Biodiversity Charter across all venues to strengthen and guide nature-positive practices;
- Installing beehives, insect hotels, bird nesting boxes and eco-grazing initiatives at relevant sites to support pollination and local wildlife;
- Eliminating the use of phytosanitary products across all landscaped areas to protect biodiversity and soil quality.
Protecting Nature and Its Resources
Water Management
Objective: Contribute to the preservation and sustainable management of water resources.
Key initiatives:
- Installing water-saving aerators in all sanitary facilities to reduce potable water consumption;
- Deploying rainwater harvesting systems to support non-potable water uses;
- Applying differentiated landscaping management practices that promote biodiversity and reduce irrigation needs.
Waste Recovery and Recycling
Objective: Increase the recycling rate of waste managed by Viparis to 70%.
Key initiatives:
- Introducing multi-stream waste sorting areas (paper,cardboard, metal, plastic, glass and wood) with dedicated equipment (compactors and baling presses) at relevant venues;
- Installing recycling bins in public areas to facilitate waste separation;
- Measuring waste volumes on demand (by volume, weight or container, depending on the venue).
Waste Reduction
Objective: Reduce the volume of waste managed by Viparis.
Key initiatives:
- Eliminating plastic bottles in organisers’ offices and meeting rooms, replacing them with returnable glass bottles;
- Requiring the donation of unconsumed food from all approved caterers for events serving more than 200 meals;
- Establishing partnerships with organisations specialising in reuse and circular economy initiatives.
